Minutes of 44th Meeting – October 21, 2019

Minutes of the last meeting were read and accepted to an attendance of fifteen members and three guests.

The topics of the month were; Postcards, U.S. High Denomination Currency, U.S. Dimes and British Halfpennies.

 Postcards shown included one hundred year old  examples of various subjects, and others of Railroad workers. Three 100 dollar Franklin notes were presented and included one star note and a  high denomination one million dollar “funny money “note  was also shown. 

U.S.  dimes presented included, capped bust, a collection seated liberty, and also Barber  type coins. A variety of British halfpennies were represented with a 1694 William and Mary, the only copper piece with Mary who succumbed to smallpox in 1694, 1697 William III, and eighteenth century King George’s  I, II , III and Queen Victoria coppers.  An ongoing accession of large cents was explained in detail and is coming to a conclusion, and the member announced that he will gladly look at any members  examples of large cents.

Other collectibles were books on football, a 1940’s book about Jackie Robinson and an inscribed edition of Percy Crosby’s work of “Skippy”, which was later made into a movie.  A member described the actions of the USS Enterprise in WWII from a book he presented, while another member had a 1/700 scale model of the latest version of the aircraft carrier. A guest provided models of military vehicles and figures of lead soldiers in various positions.

The next meeting is November 18, and the topics are: U.S. Large Cents, British Large Pennies, Slabbed Coins or other items, and Paper Collectibles.
