Minutes of the last meeting was amended and accepted to an attendance of seventeen members and one guest.
Topics of the month included fractional currency which were represented by notes under one dollar and an encased postage stamp that were both used as currency due to the hoarding of federal coins during the Civil War.
Knit patches on caps were shown of different government offices and organizations, some which our member was involved with. A type set of NYC transit tokens through the years was described by another member.
The topic of Dollar Coins included a Draped Bust (1795-1804), Seated Liberty (1840-1873), a collection of Presidential dollars (2007-2016). Also, a complete set of Peace dollars (1921-1935), and an almost complete set of Morgan dollars (1878-1921). A display of Colonial Spanish dollars was exhibited including a 1759 Pillar Dollar, and two 8 reales, 1781 Chas. III, 1792 Chas. IIII and an 1641 Lion Dollar from the Dutch settlement in New York which were also used in the colonies. Ike dollars, American Innovation dollar and dollar sized foreign coins were also shown. A member shared his thoughts on all the different dollar coins being minted and not circulating from the U.S. Mint.
Other collectibles presented were: elongated coins, a Harrison Cady cartoon book featuring his style of intricate art work and a 1/700 scale model of the USS Missouri.
Next meeting, October 21, the topics are: Post Cards, U.S. High denomination currency, U.S. Dimes of all types and British Halfpennies.
