Personally I like to hold my coins in hand. Most modern coins are going to grade on the high side of the scale anyway. They are readily available in these high grades and easy to replicate in any collection. This is an opportunity to have the best of both worlds.
Those coins that are approaching rarity should be preserved and authenticated by certification. High priced coins that we are buying can be better managed when purchased already certified. Another consideration is when we pass our collection to our children and spouses. This way, all they need to do is scan the coin’s barcode and instantly they have knowledge of its worth. Of course they need to be taught to be savvy when approaching a potential buyer.
