The minutes of the last meeting were read and accepted to an attendance of twenty – two members and one guest.
The topics of the month included items made of silver in many varieties. Presented by members were a 10 oz. bar, a set of 36 presidential 1oz. ingots as well as silver rounds and medals. Odd denomination coins included; half dimes, 3 cent pieces, 20 cent piece, and a British 2 pound coin.
Other topics of coin and stamp books were shown such as; a B. Max Mehl buying catalog from 1944, vintage 1940’s and 50’s Red and Blue books, an old grading guide and stamp publications. We spent time seeing what the prices of rare coins were then and now. Items from Ireland were presented and discussed such as a 1723 copper Hibernia farthing used in the English – American colonies. Badges, pin-back pins and buttons included political, commemorative, and various organizational themes.
New acquisitions by members was the 2019 U.S. & Canadian Pride of Two Nations set, which contains a reverse proof American silver eagle and a Canadian $5 proof silver maple leaf. Also shown was a 50th anniversary proof silver dollar of the lunar landing.
Other show and tell items were; a huge folder that contained pages from the Philadelphia Enquirer newspaper covering the latest stories of 1941 during World War II complete with ads and comics of the time and a complete 20th century Capital holder collection including all gold denominational coins.
Our RVCC club members really help each other out noted by a member completing his Washington quarter set, after receiving his long awaited 1940D piece from a fellow member.
Phil acquired items from a collector which will be used for our raffle prizes.
Our next meeting will be August 19 and the topics will be: World’s Fair memorabilia, Foreign Currency, U.S. Quarters, and Vacation Items brought back during your Summer break.
