The minutes were read and accepted to an attendance of fourteen members. The coinage designed by Charles Barber was the topic. Presented were examples of nickels, dimes, quarters, halves and silver commemorative coins. He also designed commemorative gold pieces during his term.
We had interesting discussions on grading, natural and artificial toning on coins. It was mentioned that the new deluxe Red Book is available, featuring all types of five cent pieces. Each year the book will highlight a different denomination.
A new feature was added this night, when a member passed around a Draped Bust large cent and asked if anyone could find something odd about it. Two people noticed the error which was on the reverse. The fraction under the wreath was struck 1/000 instead of 1/100 signifying 1/100 of a dollar. We broke for refreshments and a raffle, then continued our Show & Tell.
At the June meeting we will have a fraternal party with deli sandwiches provided by the club. Our topics are: Washington quarters, Franklin and Kennedy halves and Coins of France as well as other collectibles.
