The minutes of the last meeting were read and accepted at our Summer Get-Together Annual Party and was attended by 21 members.
Topic items featured albums of football and baseball trading cards, with some autographed by a sport star as well as a 1983/1984 Los Angeles Olympic three coin proof set. A member contributed a sport quiz asking everyone as to, “what record in baseball will probably never be broken ?”. After a hint, another member gave the correct answer. It was Johnny Vandermeer’s two consecutive no-hit games, and the winner received a prize of a baseball card with this great pitchers’ image.
Collection albums of silver Washington quarters and an uncirculated set of Roosevelt dimes were displayed. Best finds included a 1781 Spanish one real while metal detecting, and a three cent piece received in change. The merchant probably mistook it for a dime. Keep checking your change. Recent acquisitions were a French gold piece and a 1781 Spanish eight real coin.
Collectibles included: empty 7-UP bicentennial soda cans, each featuring an outline of a state, and when piled in a certain way they reveal an image of Uncle Sam, and full size models of military rifles and pistols.
Next meeting, July 15, the topics will be: Pin back Pins and Badges, Odd Denominated Coins, Old Books containing the Past Prices of Coins, Products of Ireland including Coins, Currency, Stamps and Postcards, and various Silver Bullion Ingots or Bars.
