Tuesday January 17th, 6:30pm — 8:45pm

Fourteen members attended on a rainy night to enjoy our meeting. Coins of France was one of the topics of the program and members presented various denominations of dates and mint marks. One French coin was minted in one of the early Italian states. Tokens were represented with examples of Hard Times, Civil War, Sutler, Good Luck and Transportation pieces.

Show & Tell included, rolls of half dollars purchased years ago, which to the members surprise, contained silver half type coins and an 1807 bust half. A recently purchased old stamp album was also shown containing some rare pieces.

Discussions included the new 2017 cent featuring the one year “P” mint mark commemorating the 225th anniversary of the U.S. Mint. It was kept a secret intentionally and was a total surprise to the numismatic press and the public. On this subject, it was brought up; is it a “cent” or a “penny”? Both were deemed acceptable, as most people use the carry-over English version, “penny”, and it is printed on one cent bank wrappers.

We had a raffle at the break.

It was announced that if anyone wants to bring refreshments to let us know before the next meeting and club $10 dues will be accepted.

February’s  program will be: COINS OF GERMANY, U.S. CURRENCY and QUARTER DOLLARS. Other numismatic oddities and collectibles of interest may be presented.
