Fifteen members were in attendance. Phil mentioned a few Collectibles shows in the area including the Pascack Historical Society’s “Curiosity and Antique” sale.
The topics of the evening included Canadian coins and memorabilia to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary. Members presented: pre-confederation tokens from various provinces as well as coins of later date and present day Canada. Gold coins were represented by an odd denomination 1856 $3 piece. Examples of coins from Switzerland were also displayed. Other collectibles included: aircraft postcards, an antique radio, and lead toy railroad figures.
Show and tell and latest acquisitions were presented such as; recent metal detector finds including three large cents, and a 1787 Connecticut copper.
During the refreshment break, we had our monthly raffle, and a friend of Edward donated boxes of coin and stamp books, with accessories for both of these subjects, which were gratefully appreciated and shared by the membership.
October 16th’s meeting topics will include, (1) an introduction of colonial and post-colonial tokens and coins by Paul. It will be shown on screen and will bring a new option for us for programs. (2) Odd denomination coins and currency, (3) Ancient coins, (4) Birth year coin and collectibles.
