Minutes of Meeting of Feb. 21, 2017

The minutes were read to an attendance of fifteen members. The topics of the program brought out coins and currency from Germany, including coinage of old states from Baden to Prussia. One 1913 commemorative silver 3 Mark piece was found by a member while metal detecting. United States currency was also presented with overprint and ink errors, large notes, as well as foreign pieces and U.S. quarters of all types and grades. All were shown and discussed with interest by all members.

Among our Show & Tell subjects were: A book on Pearl Harbor, that a member acquired there, and met some of the military personnel who actually participated on that “Day of Infamy” and received their signatures, a bank in the form of the RCA dog “Nipper”, and a large 1826 Brazilian copper 80 Reis coin counter punched to a lower value of 40 Reis.

We then broke for refreshments and a raffle. We’d like to thank those members who donated raffle prizes as well as refreshments and who paid their club dues.

The next meeting will focus on PROOF SETS, PROOF COINS, MODERN COMMEMORATIVES and other collectibles that perhaps have been hidden away and might make for an interesting education.
