The meeting commenced at 6:30PM. Twelve members and three guests attended.
Mercury dimes and buffalo nickels were the topics, and examples of these were shown and discussed including full split bands on the higher grades of “merc’s”. The reverse would have three separated bands wrapped around the rods of the fasces and would command a premium in the price. The 1913 Indian nickel’s reverse have two varieties; Type 1 buffalo standing on a mound and Type 2 on a flat plain. This was done to prevent “FIVE CENTS” from wearing during circulation. The Lewis and Clark Westward Journey nickels (2004/2005), along with HOBO nickels, Lincoln cents and banknotes were presented.
Any member wishing to sell numismatic or other collectibles can be their own auctioneer by informing the club at the previous meeting, to present information on articles for sale. Another way to sell is to put for sale items on your table with price labels and discuss business privately.
We thank the new guests for coming and would like to hear from others who would like to join us for learning and adding information for all to enjoy.
We encourage all to join the club’s mailing list in order to receive monthly notification and any other club notices.
The May meeting’s topic will be all denominations designed by Charles Barber.
