The meeting minutes were read and accepted to an attendance of fourteen members and one guest. We welcomed Joe Ridder, a former member and friend of another coin club, who moved to South Carolina.
Washington quarters, presented by members, included two 5oz. bullion quarters and others of assorted dates and grades, Franklin half dollars, including an incomplete album, needing various dates for completion. Some members volunteered to help the member complete his set. That’s what makes a good coin club, helping others to enjoy our hobby. Another collection of Franklin’s was also presented which was followed by a discussion on grading Mint State coins of that type. Kennedy halves were also displayed, and a talk ensued on what errors to look for on them, such as missing engravers initials on the reverse.
French coins dating from 1792 to recent times were shown with their artistic designs of Emperor’s and such, pertaining to France.
Joe Ridder presented us with some of his varied collection of currency and banknotes, explaining all of the aspects of this type of money collecting. Other collectibles included a trans-oceanic wartime radio.
Food and drinks were provided by the club and members, to the delight of everyone, and we enjoyed the camaraderie as a result.
After the break and raffle, we agreed on our topics for the next meeting, July 17th which will be, cross-hobby collectibles (coin banks, glassware or anything else relating to coins), favorite coin or currency books, odds and ends, and recent acquisitions.
