Minutes of 18th Meeting – August 21, 2017

Fourteen members and two guests attended. We were glad to see a former coin collector, Joe Pecorino, visiting with us. One of the guests thanked us for advice on a $5 gold coin she had acquired.

Collectible items presented included a 1999 George Washington Death Bicentennial gold commemorative coin. The Laura Garden Fraser design of this coin was originally supposed to be the new 1932 quarter, replacing the Standing Liberty quarter. However, Mint politics played a part in approving the current John Flanagan design. Other items were various First Day Covers, and a colonial copper.

Our topics of the night included dimes and Civil War items which were represented by an incomplete set of Liberty Head or Mercury dimes, sans the elusive 1916D, a rare 1942/1941, and a Civil War pistol.

The topics for our September 18th meeting will be, (1) any item or coins, currency, having to do with Canada who will be celebrating its 150th Anniversary, (2) Gold Coins, (3) Coins of Switzerland, and any other subject of interest.

We would like to thank members for their donations for our raffle and also for refreshments, which are always welcomed. If everyone would share information on a collectible, whether on hand or not, we all would be the richer leaving with the knowledge received.
