The minutes of the last meeting were read and accepted, after corrections were made on the dates of the Washington quarters, which were changed to 1932S and 1932D respectively.
Our club received a letter from the River Vale Library thanking us for the $50 donation which will be used for future improvements.
Our holiday party was a big success as an attendance of twenty members and two guests joined in the festivities.
The topic of Walking Liberty half dollars were represented by a 1917D which was one of the two coins of the series to feature the mintmark on the obverse along with the 1916D. Other dates in folders were also shown.
Classic commemorative coins from 1892-1954 included an 1893 Columbian Exposition Queen Isabella quarter, the only quarter of the whole series, a Columbian half dollar featuring Christopher Columbus, as well as Monroe Doctrine, Oregon Trail, and George Washington Carver halves.
Examples of all currency from the Pacific consisted of a brown seal $1 note with Hawaii printed across the back, military occupation bills, a U.S. minted coin from the Philippines, and New Zealand and Australian coins.
Other items were postal first day covers, George Bush private minted 1oz. silver medal, old radio tubes, rare watch, vintage song sheet, and an assortment of hand held video games from the recent past.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday January 22, due to the Monday holiday. The topics will focus on Flying Eagle and Indian cents, Benjamin Franklin half dollars and Coins Currency of Africa. Members can also bring items for sale or trade to the membership.
