The minutes were read and accepted to an attendance of thirteen members and one guest.
A continuing discussion of the usage of coins and currency from our last meeting was held. It centered on the habits of those of us who do and do not carry change, use credit cards, or other means of payments, when making purchases. Our consensus showed that less coinage is being used in the marketplace. How that would affect our hobby in the future, is yet to be seen.
The topics were coins of Mexico, and presented were: a 1968 25 peso Mexican Olympic silver commemorative coin, a 1948 5 peso silver w/ Aztec chief, and a 1759 Spanish Pillar Dollar minted in Mexico City. Canada was represented with large cents featuring Queen Victoria circa mid 18oo’s as well as gold crowns, and also coins from the States of Jersey, a token from Nova Scotia, and an English penny with the queens image. U.S. proof singles and sets shown by the membership were: bullion American Eagles, regular yearly issues, a 1990 Canadian $20 pioneer of aviation commemorative piece, and a 2009 Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set.
Other collectibles presented covered different forms of currency such as: Civil War fractional notes (values under $1), 1922 gold certificate, outdated banknotes. A variety of old and odd light bulbs and, a Pepsi Cola portable radio circa 1950 – 1960’s.
During refreshments we had our raffle and announced that at next month’s meeting, we’ll have a party with sandwiches and cake, and you are welcome to bring any goodies to share, along with “liquid” refreshments. Please pay your dues if you haven’t done so.
Next meeting, (June 18th), will feature historical events from the month of June; memorabilia having to do with D-Day, the first illegal mint in Boston, Massachusetts, first mint in Philadelphia, and colonial pieces. Also, baseball artifacts including Babe Ruth items.
If any member wishes to sell coins, etc. for your own profit, bring them down to this meeting for sale. We’ll have a mini coin convention.
