The minutes were read and accepted to an attendance of seventeen members. The program centered on Walking Liberty and Kennedy half dollars.
A complete collection of Walking Liberty halves was displayed by a member including a 1917D piece which had the mint mark on the obverse, which was done only in 1916 and 1917. Coins of Belgium were presented with an 1836 2 centimes overstruck on an 1823 Netherlands 1 cent.
Black History Month was honored with a 1998 Black Revolutionary War Patriot commemorative silver dollar portraying Crispus Attucks, the first person killed at the Boston Massacre, a medal celebrating Louis Armstrong, and a sheet of Jackie Robinson postage stamps.
Vintage radios were on hand including a 1930’s Emerson table model, 1950’s transistor and novelty radio’s such as a locomotive and a knight’s helmet. We then broke for refreshments and raffle.
We continued with other topics which included a Blacksmith copper, which were colonial Canadian tokens issued for circulation due to lack of coinage, similar to the situation English America was contending with.
The next meeting, April 16, the topic’s will be : 1) a discussion on The Future of Coins, Money and Cash, 2) Morgan and Peace Dollars, 3) Cuba and Costa Rica coins and currency and 4) Earth Day and National Park Week items and coins.
