The minutes were read and accepted to an attendance of twelve members and three guests. We were glad that one of our guests was John Lorenzo, expert on colonial coins and tokens of the U.S. and Canada. He presented each member with a CD copy of his new book, “Forgotten Coins of the North American Colonies”.
The program included Washington quarters and an example shown was a display holder with early mint state coins containing a 1932 first year piece. A mid – 1800’s Argentina 5/10 denomination coin and an Australian shilling was shown to cover these countries’ topic of the month. Military subjects included a Marshall Islands $5 coin honoring the RAF pilots of WWII, an enameled medal of Air Force One, and U.S. Marine challenge medals.
Another item was an 1890 Morgan Dollar MS-64, followed by a discussion on colonial contemporary counterfeits and the influx of Chinese modern forgeries. One guest brought an album of world coins owned by a relative who passed away, to seek some information on this collection. Members obliged by giving advice and guiding him as to what he had. That’s what makes us, as a club feel we have helped to spread some knowledge to hopefully, a newcomer in the hobby.
Mid-way through the meeting was the raffle and refreshments. If anyone wishes to bring any cake or treats, let us know at the meeting and it will be appreciated.
The next meeting, March 19, the topics are; 1) Walking Liberty and Kennedy halves, 2) coins from Austria and Belgium, 3) collectible radios and 4) Black history memorabilia.
