The first meeting of the new year was met by the reading and acceptance of the minutes, to twelve members.
The program started with interesting discussions of how our members started the hobby of coin collecting. Among some stories were a member’s father who owned a business and looked through the cash register at the end of the day, and another who was introduced to the hobby by a fellow worker.
The topic of Roosevelt dimes was presented with a dime lacking its nickel plating making it appear as a copper coin, and a Roosevelt dime collection of date and mint marks. Slabbed dimes were also exhibited.
Unusual coins were represented with two counter-stamped modern nickels as well as a counter-stamped Lincoln cent. These were done outside the mint and are not errors. Another Lincoln cent had very light copper plating, revealing the zinc core. A nineteenth century set of coins from Hawaii was also presented.
Collectibles included NFL figures of football players from all teams in their colorful uniforms and vintage pocket watches.
We then broke for refreshments and raffle.
We then continued with show and tell and other conversations. This year’s club dues of $10 are due at your earliest convenience.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, February 20th, because of President’s Day on Monday. The topics are: 1) Washington Quarters, 2) Coins from Argentina and Australia, and 3) Military related coins and collectibles.
