Minutes of 21st Meeting – November 20, 2017

Minutes of last meeting were read and accepted to an attendance of fourteen members and two guests.

One of our topics was SEATED LIBERTY COINS in circulation from 1837 to 1891.  They consisted of half dimes through silver dollars, including the only twenty cent piece ever minted. All these denominations were presented by our members. The U.S. NAVY who celebrated its 242nd anniversary this year was another topic and was represented with a model Grumman F-14 Tomcat, a swing-wing supersonic naval carrier jet, which served with distinction from 1968 to 2006.  One of our guests, a veteran of WWII, provided us with a hands on presentation of his actual experiences aboard a minesweeper.  ANCESTRAL tokens and stamps were the last of the topics of the month to be presented.

Other items shown were a Massachusetts state quarter coin die, a magician piece 1934/1937 double sided Indian head nickel and a nicely toned Seated Liberty silver round.  Collectibles of postcards from local areas as well as two model military tanks were described.

We then broke for refreshments and raffle.

Phil announced that we will have a seasonal holiday party, on our next meeting 12/18/17, complete with sandwiches and holiday cake.  Members can also bring refreshments of their choice to share and celebrate.  So skip dinner at home.   Also we will present the library with our annual $50 donation to put toward the expansion of the Community Room project.

The topics for the next meeting: YOUR FAVORITE COIN, BUFFALO NICKELS, and HOLIDAY ITEMS OF INTEREST.
